THAT GAP

He was too busy hoping
she’d be the best for him.
He omitted looking at his own flaws,
overlooking her need for him to be her other half.

Each time she falls,
he hopes she’ll be fine.

I’ll always be here for you.
You’ll always be mine.
I’d do anything to make sure you are happy
but I won’t do what makes you happy if it makes me sad.

You could call him mad.
But being mad about you is a condition he doesn’t mind possessing.

Is being blinded by his love for you?
blinding him to how you want to be loved?
Is this obsessing?

Do you see that he tried?
When still, you cried…
That you don’t feel all his love—
and yet he gave all that he has and all that he could give.

He could not come to tell you
what colour or shape his love is.
Red or blue?
All he knows is that it’s true.

I saw you. I see all you do.
It is not in you that void I try to fill.
It is in me.
I cannot set you free.

Despite his love not being the one to fill your own void,
he’s grateful for you.

You said you’d meet each other halfway.
He hoped that day is today.

You came from different backgrounds.
You found each other on what to him was foreign ground.

Oh, he tried and he cried—
but you brought him to tears of joy.
He vowed to keep you in his heart.
No matter what or who. We’d never grow apart.

No matter what you do or where you go,
in your heart is the twilight that appears in his soul.

You have the reason he lives.
